It’s an exciting time to join our team of eight, with lots of opportunities to get involved in, as we continue the delivery of our new HR and Payroll system. This role is one of three HR Advisors who work in a pool to offer seamless casework management support through a devolved advice HR model, to train, coach and develop Line Managers to confidently and effectively fulfil their line managers responsibilities.

What you will be doing

  • Triage – To be the first point of contact to triage all ER casework queries within NVSL, including conduct, capability, grievances and advice on flexible working requests; undertaking an initial risk assessment;
  • Casework – To oversee all allocated cases, providing accurate, consistent and timely advice, which is based on an assessment of past precedents and future business risks, whilst operating within a typically devolved HR advice model, enabling and empowering managers to retain ownership for resolving their own people related queries and issues, managing internal customer expectations in line with our departmental service level agreements;
  • Coaching and Developing Line Managers – To adopt a coaching style, striving to improve the skills of Team Leaders Supervisors and Managers in their application of HR policies and processes and to support their own development;
  • Evaluate – To identify opportunities for continuous development and learnings from cases – for managers, HR and the wider business;
  • Understanding business – Working closely and proactively with HRBPs and key business stakeholders to maintain an up-to-date understanding of the current challenges and priorities, to establish credibility and to provide context for effective, commercially-focused advice and direction;
  • Advising on and monitoring the completion of probation management;
  • Proactively supporting the business to manage employee wellbeing to help reduce sickness absence;
  • General Admin – Keep accurate and timely records of all advice given, ensuring the casework spreadsheet is maintained and up-to-date.

Training

  • Licence to Manage – To create content and deliver training to enhance the knowledge and ability of Line Mangers;
  • Company Induction – Supporting with the delivery of the Company Induction; seeking and offering feedback to drive improvements.

Recruitment

  • Providing advice on Recruitment processes, including interviewing and best practice selection.

Other

  • Manage escalations from HR Administrators – DBS, Health Questionnaires, right to work, etc.
  • Monitory the effectiveness of policies and make recommendations for changes;
  • Provide cover for HR Administrators as necessary.

Who we are looking for

Essential

  • A levels or equivalent;
  • Level 5 CIPD or working towards – consideration will be given to supporting the right candidate in completing level 7 after 18 months service;
  • You will have solid generalist HR experience, preferably with exposure to a wholesale/distribution business;
  • A good knowledge and understanding of all areas of HR policy and process, and practical application;
  • Experience of coaching managers in the investigation and resolution of HR case work;
  • A passion for upskilling Line Managers and experience of writing and delivering Line Manager training;
  • Experience of proactively managing sickness absence;
  • Strong problem-solving ability whilst able to exercise good judgement when assessing risk, evaluating and escalating casework;
  • Adapting style and approach to different types and levels of service users;
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary to support an almost 24/7 operation;
  • Positive, confident, articulate and professional communicator;
  • An empathetic listener and persuasive, tactful speaker, with the ability to build trust, respect and credibility;
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues / stakeholders at all levels;
  • Fairness and objectivity;
  • Discretion with confidential information;
  • Good organisational administration and IT skills to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Calmness under pressure and when dealing with difficult situations;
  • Flexibility to travel and work from other sites with very occasional overnight stays;
  • A full driving licence.
