Introducing the Black Tote Box from NVS: Delivering a Greener Pawprint

Introducing the Black Tote Box from NVS: Delivering a Greener Pawprint

I’m sure you will recognise our reusable blue tote boxes; thousands are distributed daily, delivering essential supplies to practices up and down the country and then collected the following day for reuse.

What you may not know is that these tote boxes are made from recyclable plastic and once they reach the end of their operational life are sent to be made into other objects.

Here at NVS, we are always looking for ways to make our operation as sustainable as possible. We are proud to announce the introduction of a new black tote box that is not only recyclable but is itself made from 100% recycled plastic.

The new black tote boxes are the same size and just as strong as the current blue ones. The first deliveries in our new, black, recycled tote boxes have begun today and you may be one of the first recipients to receive one.

Of course we will not be withdrawing our blue tote boxes immediately, we’ll let them continue until they are no longer able to be used; so you can expect a mix of blue and black totes with your deliveries in the coming months.

How can you help us deliver a greener pawprint?

By ensuring you return tote boxes (either black or blue) to your delivery driver, we can keep them in circulation as long as possible, ensuring the maximum lifespan before they go off to be recycled.

We’d love to see how our new recycled black tote boxes are being received in the field. When you first receive a delivery in a black tote box why not take a picture and post it on social media using the hashtag #GreenerPawPrint. You can tag us into your posts by using @nvsvetservices on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, or on LinkedIn by using National Veterinary Services Limited.

NVS is excited to announce that we are moving to a new facility

NVS is excited to announce the development of a major new warehouse and head office facility in Stoke on Trent.

Rendering of how the new premises will look once complete.

The new facility is in response to growth in the sector which enables NVS to evolve its market-leading services, whilst considering long-term goals for expansion and sustainability.

NVS is making a significant investment to the Stoke-on-Trent economy, securing the company’s location and ensuring that NVS continues to be a major employer in the area. The facility future-proofs the business, equipping NVS with the technological advances and improved infrastructure needed to facilitate the expansion of the current product and services offering. Modern, purpose-built premises will ensure greater efficiencies; further enabling NVS to maintain its position as the leading wholesaler in the veterinary market.

“The move to the new facility heralds a significant milestone for NVS,” says Managing Director Martin Riley. “The investment allows us to remain agile in a rapidly changing industry, adapting to market conditions and growth in the sector. The relocation also enables us to fully commit to a sustainability plan; the building will fulfil our energy efficiency pledge via the incorporation of solar panels and temperature controls. It will score an ‘Excellent’ rating in the BREEAM sustainability assessment method – placing it within the top 10% of new non-domestic buildings in the UK. This focus also extends to the provision of electric parking spaces for both commercial and non-commercial vehicles, and we’ll be working with the developers to ensure wellbeing and sustainability are prioritised across the site”.

The new facility will more than double NVS’ existing warehouse capacity, and building work is underway at the location, St Modwen Park, Stoke.

Meticulous planning will ensure that customers, suppliers, and stakeholders experience a seamless transition and continue to receive the outstanding service that they have relied on in the past.

We look forward to working with you from our new location in 2023!

Have any questions regarding our move? Let us know!

Top Tips for Successful Stock Management

Five ways to ensure your ordering process fits the bill

With stockroom space at a premium, staff stretched further than ever before, and sustainability on everyone’s agenda, there’s never been a better time to streamline your ordering process.

Practice Management Systems (PMS) make ordering a doddle, but if you ever find that you’ve more Flea Treatments than you can shake a stick at, read on for five top tips to order heaven. Click a tip below to find out more.

With NVS there’s no need to buy on a precautionary basis – our next day delivery service means that you only need to order what you need when you need it. This responsiveness and flexibility means there’s no need to stockpile, freeing up room in your store cupboards and streamlining your cashflow. Chat to your NVS Territory Manager (TM) about product usage and purchase history; a business review with our team can help you to plan and maintain your stock levels so you’re not caught short, and less money tied up in unnecessary stock must be a bonus.

Practice Management Systems are an essential business support tool, but they can’t count what’s in your dispensary or the back of your vet’s car. A regular audit and inventory review will ensure that your items are in stock, undamaged and within their expiry dates, and give you the opportunity to cross reference what you have, against what your PMS thinks you have. This enables you to resist ordering surplus products and helps you to keep a keen eye on the value of your stock. Tighter control also means you’re better prepared for inspections and gives you better product traceability.

It’s a good idea to restrict responsibility for ordering products to just a couple of key colleagues. Duplication of ordering can be costly and time-consuming, and if overall responsibility for ordering isn’t clear, stock levels can be difficult to manage and may impact your Practice Management System’s automatic reordering function.

Ordering from NVS is simple. Once your order is placed you can sit back and relax. We’ll only get in touch if an item is out of stock or there’s an issue. Ensure you have our email exception report notifications set up, as this is the fastest way to understand the status of your order. This peace of mind enables you to have confidence that ordering once means ordering right.

NVS Online is your ally. Enhanced search features, detailed product information and clear, current stock status all help inform the process, making ordering a breeze. Similarly, your TM will have the latest info on new product developments and can help you to find solutions to the challenges you may be facing. Call them, they’re there to help: https://www.nvsweb.co.uk/about-us/sales-team/

Fewer returns mean fewer forms to fill, less time spent on paperwork, and clearer balance sheets. And the reduction in unwanted items means fewer journeys, less emissions and a greener planet.

Let’s work together to streamline your stock and be more sustainable.

Let’s take control of your back orders

Take control of
your back orders

Do you ever receive a delivery and then think to yourself, “I don’t remember ordering this”, it’s usually followed by “that’s more paperwork I have to do to just to send it back!”

The reason for this happening is usually down to back orders, which are automatically shipped once the product is back in stock. When you can’t get hold of an item because it’s out of stock you can sit tight and wait for it to become available again or order an alternative item from us.

Whatever you choose to do in these situations, don’t forget to manage your back orders. This can save you time, by reducing the amount of paperwork you need to complete.

1. Request an NVS daily Customer Shortage Report
NVS can help you by providing a daily Customer Shortage Report. This report will help you identify the products you want to leave on back order and which ones you’d like us to remove. Many of our customers already have this set up and find it a fast and efficient way of quickly viewing back order products so they can cancel them if no longer needed or multiple orders have been placed. If you haven’t seen your Customer Shortage Report, please let us know and we can set it up for you.

2. If you have sourced an alternative product, ensure you cancel the original order
If you’ve sourced an alternative product, please cancel the back ordered item. It’ll avoid you having to send it back once it is back in stock again. You can do this by utilising your Customer Shortage Report and contacting our Orderline team on 01782 775555 or emailing us at order.line@nvs-ltd.co.uk and we will make the required changes for you.

3. If you decide to wait for a product to become available, then please make sure nobody else in your practice is also ordering the item
A common reason for back ordered products to arrive in multiples is different staff in a practice seeing it is out of stock and reordering without realising someone else already has.

4. Is your PMS (Practice Management System) automatically reordering?
Your PMS may have been set up to keep a certain amount of stock of a specific product on hand and automatically order it for you when you are out of stock. In some cases when something is on back order the PMS will automatically keep trying to reorder it. By adjusting automatic reordering thresholds in your PMS, you can avoid unnecessary returns.

To set up your shortage reports please contact our Orderline team on 01782 775555. If you need help or advice regarding stock management then please contact your NVS Territory Manager.

Let’s work together to help control your back orders. Building in a proactive back order check into your regular routine will help support a more sustainable process by reducing the movement of products, reducing paperwork and saving you time and resource within your practice.

To help you manage your backorders, here’s a handy checklist for you to follow.
