  • Diagnosis of common stifle pathology
  • Approach to the stifle joint
  • Safe inspection and treatment of meniscal injury
  • Extracapsular repair of cruciate ligament rupture, including practical lateral suture and OrthoZip sessions
  • Surgical treatment of patella luxation in the first opinion practice

Course Agenda

For veterinary surgeons aiming to develop a firm understanding of the knee and surgical treatment options available for the stifle. NVS are pleased to offer a practical course on the Introduction to the knee. The course will introduce delegates to the principles of case selection, planning and performing of cruciate repair utilising both lateral suture and Orthozip. It will also cover patella luxation, meniscus injury and correct use of joint taps. This course allows participants to experience the procedures on cadavers, in a practical environment.

Key Learning Objectives

Candidates will be able to diagnose common stifle problems encounted in first opinion practice and as a result confidently discuss treatment options with their clients. Surgeons can then perform appropriate surgical repairs in line with their diagnosis.

John Graduated in 2008 from Cambridge University. Having started out life in a busy small animal hospital in Oxfordshire, John moved to the South West with his wife Laura. In 2012 he took the role of primary surgeon at a local hospital practice, before he and his wife, Laura, bought their own practice in Torbay in 2014. He completed his certificate in surgery in December 2014, and was awarded Advanced Practitioner Status in 2015.
